Despite a tough year, the foundation will increase grants by 6%
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amarillo Area Foundation, one of the Texas Panhandle's most prominent philanthropy focused organizations, held it's annual meeting on Tuesday. The group looked back at last year, and started to focus on the upcoming year's projects and goals.
Despite a tough year with budget tightening, the foundation will actually increase their grant funding for 2010 by 6%.
"To be able to help such a diverse group is very rewarding, and especially in those times when everyone is having to cut back, for us to be able to increase our giving even by a small percentage, it's quite an accomplishment and it's something I'm very excited for the coming year," said Mark Bivins, Incoming Chairman for Amarillo Area Foundation.
Among the foundation's accomplishments from last year include: the establishment of a women's philanthropy organization, funding the coalition of health services, and their ongoing fundraising for the ACE scholarship program.
"Philanthropy is what gets a community from good to great, philanthropy is what makes the Texas Panhandle a great place to live, and the Amarillo Area Foundation and Harrington Foundations are the basis for philanthropy in the Texas Panhandle," said Bivins.
At least 17 organizations benefit from funding provided by the Amarillo Area Foundation which has been in Amarillo since 1957.
