AMARILLO, TEXAS -- More fire stations are one strategy for improved fire safety, and today Amarillo City Commissioners gave their blessing to a new facility.  Fire staton #12 will be located on the North side of 58th Street between Georgia and Western.  This is a different location than the original plan, which was closer to Georgia, but after some careful evaluation, Commissioners decided this was the right location.  " This new fire station will address response times over in that area of town.  All areas of town are growing and this particular area needed a new Fire Station." said Mayor Debra McCartt.  There isn't a timetable yet for construction of the new fire station, but Mayor McCartt says planning is in the works.
