AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport has implemented its snow and ice control plan. The airfield and airport terminal building will remain open through the inclement weather. However, airlines make decisions individually concerning specific flight cancellations and delays.
Department of Aviation officials recommend that anyone planning to travel through Friday evening contact their airline before heading to the airport.
Presently, Continental and Southwest Airlines have cancelled specific flights for today but are still anticipating operating a portion of their schedule. American Airlines has elected to cancel all of their flights today but plans to resume flights on Friday, January 29, 2010.
Scott Carr, the Director of Aviation for Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport said on Wednesday that the flights that were being cancelled were the ones that have planes that stay at the airport overnight, and the airlines are worried that if the ice gets bad Thursday morning, the planes will be stuck in Amarillo for a while.
Travelers are being advised to check with their airline for their specific flights.
