(AP) -- SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - State employees were reporting to work two hours late Friday because of wintery weather.

State officials on Thursday night called for the delay in the workday for people in non-critical, nonessential positions because of the possibility of hazardous driving conditions.

A major winter storm hit New Mexico on Thursday, bringing a blend of snow, freezing rain and high winds and different degrees of hazardous conditions to many roads and the interstate system.

New Mexico Department of Transportation crews in the affected areas have been on 12-hour shifts, removing snow and deicing the roads.

And at Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, all nonessential personnel were told to stay home Friday.
