ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Interstate 40 has reopened east of Albuquerque in the Carnuel area, but state police were urging drivers to stay off the highway.

The interstate was shut down for several hours this afternoon while state police cleared up multiple crashes as another winter storm moved through New Mexico.

I-40 also was closed for a brief time in the Sky City area near Grants.

State police Lt. Eric Garcia reports multiple crashes on I-40 west of Albuquerque, Interstate 25 north of Santa Fe and several other highways.
