ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - District Attorney Matt Chandler says he'll seek the Republican nomination for state attorney general.

Chandler says New Mexico's attorney general must be more aggressive in rooting out corruption and not rely on others, like the United States attorney, to do the job.

He made the announcement Wednesday in front of the Metropolitan Courthouse in Albuquerque that was the center of a corruption scandal involving former Senate President Manny Aragon, who is serving a 5 1/2-year prison term.

Chandler was born and raised in Clovis. He has been district attorney in Curry and Roosevelt counties since 2004.

As district attorney, Chandler initiated programs to get rid of methamphetamine labs and chronic truancy.

Chandler is married and has four sons.
