AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The brunt of the winter storm system will occur over the Texas Panhandle Sunday night and through the day Monday.
As cold, Canadian air continues to blow into the region from the north at speeds averaging 15-25 mph with some gusts upwards of 35-40 mph possible, overnight low temperatures will drop into the upper 10s to the middle 20s. The upper-level storm system will cause the airmass to "lift" across the region and take the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico moisture that has been pulled into it and turn it into light and moderate snowfall for the High Plains.
Travel could be hazardous at times across the region with the combination of moderate snowfall and the brisk northerly winds. Speaking of which, wind chill values will drop into the single digits. Cloudy skies can be expected and so can snowfall accumulations of 4-8 inches over areas north of the Canadian River by sunrise Monday with 1-3 inches expected south of the river.
