(AP) -- AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A remorseful robber who confessed to Amarillo police that she was stealing from her workplace is going to prison.
A federal judge in Amarillo sentenced Shannon Leigh Layton to 30 months behind bars for the theft of $221,000 from Texas Plains Federal Credit Union.
Layton, who must surrender by March 1, also was ordered to make restitution.
She pleaded guilty in December to making false entries by a credit union employee.
Investigators say Layton, who was sentenced Tuesday, stole from the credit union between 2002 and August 2009 by taking money from the vault and then altering the records.
Documents indicate Layton at one point last year was overcome with remorse and she stopped at the police department to confess.
