(AP) -- ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Attorney General Gary King has unveiled a new electronic system that allows New Mexico charities and private foundations to register online.
His office is also offering a one-time amnesty for late filing fees.
If the charity or foundation is a 501(c)(3) and not a school or a church, it must be registered with the Office of the Attorney General.
Through May 12, the office will waive late fees if the organization has never registered or if it's late in filing reports.
If organizations have recently sent in paper registration or annual reports, they will be granted a 30-day extension to electronically register or file.
King says it's mandatory to register a charity in New Mexico.
