OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The number of Oklahoma high school graduates taking and passing tests for college credit was down slightly last year.

The College Board says 7,313 students - 19.6 percent of graduates - took at least one Advanced Placement exam before graduating in 2009. That's down one-half percent from the 20.1 percent who took at least one AP test in 2008.

The national average was 26.5 percent of students in 2009 taking at least one AP exam.

Both the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University offer college credit for certain scores on the exams. The tests are offered in a variety of subjects with the most popular being English, literature, U.S. history and calculus AB.

The College Board is a not-for-profit group that runs the AP program.
