CURRY COUNTY, NEW MEXICO -- The candidates for Curry County jail administrator have been narrowed down to seven applicants, and soon the top five candidates will interview for the position.

County Manager Lance Pyle said he is verifying references and will soon schedule those interviews. Pyle also said he hopes to have the position filled by April.

The position became available when it was posted nationwide on Oct. 5, less than a month after Lois Bean was fired from the position.

Carols Ortiz, chief of security, has served as interim-administrator since Bean's Sept. 9 termination.

Ortiz is among applicants for the position.
