The Amarillo Police Department was one of three agencies to win a 10-thousand dollar grant award
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amarillo Police Department won a 10-thousand dollar grant award from Nixle. APD won the award based on their increase in subscription to the APD Nixle site.
Nixle is a secure messaging service which allows government agencies like APD to communicate to the public. Nixle uses text messaging, e-mail, and web based alerts to put out information.
APD uses Nixle for mostly Crimestoppers, (showing pictures and information on wanted fugitives) and for posting information on Amarillo crime trends.
"It's really a win win situation because we're not paying for anything for the service, the subscribers aren't paying anything for the service, and here we've earned this grant just for building a subscriber base, it's been a really great program," said Sgt. Brent Barbee, Amarillo Police Department.
APD was one of 3 agencies nationwide to win the award. Police departments in Hawaii and New Jersey won the other two grant awards.
