SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexicans licensed to carry a concealed handgun could legally go into some restaurants that sell beer and wine under a bill approved by the House.

The legislation, supported by the National Rifle Association, was approved Sunday on a 53-to-14 vote over the objections of some lawmakers who said liquor and guns don't mix.

The Senate passed a similar bill Friday. Both chambers must pass the same version before it goes to the governor to be signed into law.

Under the House proposal, it would remain illegal to carry concealed handguns into bars. It would be OK to take them into establishments that sell beer and wine and derive at least 60 percent of their revenue from the sale of food, unless a restaurant posts a sign prohibiting firearms.
