LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas police say a 40-year-old tourist's claim that he was abducted at gunpoint on the Las Vegas Strip, robbed and held captive for more than 24 hours turned out to have been a hoax.

Police aren't identifying the man, who they say is from Pflugerville, Texas.

Lt. Clinton Nichols told the Las Vegas Review-Journal for a Friday report that the man came to Las Vegas looking for drugs and sex and found them.

The man had alleged he was abducted about 5 a.m. Jan. 15 from a pedestrian overpass after he was approached by someone asking for change.

Nichols says police submitted findings to Clark County District Attorney David Roger, but didn't recommend charges against the tourist because they don't want to discourage victims from talking to police.
