AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Hundreds of Amarillo's less fortunate, lined up to participate in the Guyon Saunders Resource Center's winter outreach on Saturday. The outreach included the passing out of VA supplies like boots, socks, and sleeping bags; to health screenings like hearing, blood pressure, dental and cholesterol checks.
The winter outreach program typically serves 150 or more folks in need, but this year the need is even larger and it's growing.
"We have seen our numbers go up, and I suspect that's probably a reflection of our economic times; that things are a little bit harder and we're seeing a few more people come through needing services that might not have need services before," said Desire Mosteller, Database manager for 211 and the Winter Outreach.
The program targeted the homeless, veterans, and at risk folks in need. All of the health providers and screeners volunteered and donated to the outreach.
