MESILLA, N.M. (AP) - Mesilla has extended a moratorium on wind turbines for energy to give the town time to come up with regulations governing them.

The southern New Mexico community put the moratorium in effect last fall after town trustees realized Mesilla's ordinances did not address windmills for alternative energy.

Some residents had expressed concern about the look and possible increase in noise from wind turbines.

Mesilla's trustees have extended the moratorium for 120 days to give town officials time to finish an ordinance and go through the procedures to get it approved.
