LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Taggers left behind a spray painted message to New Mexico State University students and faculty.

A night custodian working Tuesday spotted graffiti with "UTEP" spray-painted in black on a NMSU sign on the east side of Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Other obscene graffiti was left on a wall near a trash receptacle, on several walls of the Stan Fulton Athletics Center and on a sign over a gate to upper-level seating.

Another series of tags included a name, initials, El Paso's 915 area code and the Spanish word for batteries.

NMSU Police Lt. Garrett Ferreiro said the department will be contacting representatives at the El Paso school to see if the nicknames match anyone there.

A damage estimate has not been tallied.
