AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The NTSB has released their initial results in the investigation of a small plane that crashed and killed 2 Amarillo men last month.
On February 17, 2010, a Piper PA-30 twin engine plane took off from Tradewind Airport in Amarillo just after 7AM.
According to the NTSB report, the plane was damaged when it impacted terrain and a warehouse building shortly after takeoff.
The pilot, 59-year-old William Runyon Ellett and passenger, 57-year-old Andrew Arnold Hanson were killed in the accident.
The report indicates that one minute after the plane took off, it began a right turn to the north before it dropped off radar.
One witness in a parking lot two blocks west of the accident site reported seeing the plane flying towards him then pulling up into a steep climb before banking to the right and out of sight.
The plane hit the Arctic Glacier building near 47th and Washington, where it came to rest near the south side wall.
A portion of the right wing was located on the roof of the warehouse.
The NTSB removed both engines from the wreckage for examination.
At this time, no cause has been given for the crash.
