OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A pair of GOP-backed bills dealing with charter schools and performance pay for teachers have cleared the Senate.
The Senate on Tuesday passed both measures by Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee, R-Oklahoma City.
The first bill would grant chartering authority to mayors of Oklahoma City and Tulsa and remove caps on the number of charter schools allowed. Currently, only a school district, college or university can sponsor a charter school.
Coffee's second education bill would allow public school districts to institute a performance pay program for teachers, principals and administrators.
