AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Hundreds of job seekers flooded Amarillo's Region 16 building Tuesday evening, as the Census Bureau hosted a mass exam.

Lines of people signed up and took the exam. They're actually applying for a variety of Census jobs.

Locally, the Census Bureau is looking to hire about 2-thousand people to work in the Panhandle.

People came from as far away as Dallam county for the exams. Officials say they do prefer to hire people who can work in the same community or county they live in.

"The jobs vary, they can go from $8 an hour to $24 an hour, from being in an office, to being out in the field. It all depends on the assignment and the location," said Kayce Carter, Partnership Specialist, Census Bureau.

Positions vary from part-time to full-time hours and job availability depends on where you live and what position you qualify for. The exams are simple, the better you score the better chance you have of getting hired. You can take the exam as many times as you would like. To help folks, they offer a practice exam at 5:30 then the real exam at 6:30.

There will be 2 more mass exams hosted here in Amarillo. Thursday, March 18 5:30 (practice) and 6:30 P.M.(real exam) and Saturday, March 20th at 8:30 A.M. Both will be held at the Region 16 Building located at Hillside and Bell St in Amarillo.
