CLOVIS, N.M. -- A Clovis girl is recovering after being attacked by a pit bull.
According to the Clovis News Journal, Miguel Ibarra heard his daughter Arianna's scream and turned to see her being viciously attacked.
While his other children watch, he went over to help his daughter whose head was in the male pit bull's mouth. The father said he got the dog off his daughter and was attacked himself.
Ibarra said the dog bit his finger and swallowed it. The dog, then locked onto Arianna's stomach and yanked her into the trampoline.
Ibarra's 14-year-old daughter also rushed in to help, making it possible to get the girl free from the dog's jaws.
Arianna was released from a Lubbock hospital Tuesday, with 28 stitches in her legs alone and bite wounds, mostly on her lower body, from the attack.
Ibarra says the dog belonged to a friend and he was using the dog to try and breed his female pit. He also said in the past the dog had always been friendly.
The dog has been placed in a 10-day quarantine at the animal shelter for observation and will likely be euthanized if it's determined to be a dangerous dog.
The incident is under investigation for statutes governing owning a vicious dog.
