AMARILLO, TEXAS -- It's St. Patrick's Day. A day to be celebrated but who is St. Patrick exactly?
The Patron Saint of Ireland, wasn't even Irish, but British. However, that didn't stop him from spreading the gospel in the country.
Patrick was taken into slavery by Irish raiders at the age of sixteen.During that time he found comfort in his Christianity.
Six years later he escaped back to Britain where he entered the priest hood.
It's said that he believed God told him in a dream it was time to go back to Ireland and help save the people, and that he did.
He is most known for his unique style of mixing the rich culture of Ireland with scripture.
According to St. Stephen Senior Pastor Stan Cosby, " he used a simple thing like the shamrock, a three part leaf, which he used to teach the Trinity, and show the symbolism of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit."
St. Patrick also placed a sun, a powerful Irish symbol, onto the Christian cross to create what is now called a Celtic Cross.
There is also the story that he drove the snakes out of Ireland, but Pastor Crosby said he believes the snakes represent the evil he helped drive out of the country.
