AC's first increase in two years
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Students at Amarillo College will see an increase in tuition and fees this fall. It is AC's first increase in two years.
The Board of Regents made it official at Tuesday evening's meeting.
"Amarillo College has rigorously refrained from raising it's tuition and fees for the past two years, but we knew we could not hold that line indefinitely," said Dr. Paul Matney, President of Amarillo College.
Increased costs due to a spike in enrollment over the past couple of years factored into the decision.
In district students will pay $4 more per semester hour, an increase of about 6.8%. An in district student taking 12 hours would pay $753 for a semester, an increase of $48 a semester.
For out-of-state students, the increase jumps to $13 per semester hour, and out-of-district students will see an increase of $9 per semester hour.
"Even with our increase we are going to maintain our position in terms of other community colleges in Texas, at average or even below average. We are still going to be an affordable bargain for our students," said Matney.
AC ranks around 25th out of 50 Texas community colleges in tuition and fees.
Officials say the increase will bring in an additional 1-million dollars in revenue, depending on enrollment.
