OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The U.S. Census Bureau is offering tips on identifying official census workers because of recent reports of scams.
The Oklahoma City office says it's received reports of residents finding forms on their doorsteps asking for personal information - including Social Security numbers.
The only questions a Census worker will ask are those on the official 2010 Census form and that does not include Social Security numbers. The worker will not ask about taxes or income and won't ask for donations.
Census officials say workers will present an ID badge containing a Department of Commerce watermark and expiration date and they may carry a bag with a 2010 Census logo. The worker will also provide a supervisor's contact information and the local census office phone number - if asked.
