Westminster Presbyterian of Amarillo allowed us in for a portion of their service on Palm Sunday
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Christians all over the world are celebrating and observing Palm Sunday, or the beginning of Holy Week which culminates on Easter Sunday.
Westminster Presbyterian of Amarillo graciously allowed us in for a portion of their service Sunday afternoon, which included a Palm processional.
Palm Sunday is the celebration of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem a week prior to his crucifixion and resurrection.
"This is the beginning journey of Holy Week, in the sense of seeing that we need redemption and it was Jesus' journey into Jerusalem that began that journey of redemption," said Jeff Conway, Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian of Amarillo.
The Hebrew people welcomed Christ as he rode in on a donkey by placing palm leaves and branches on his path, a symbolic gesture meant for kings.
"I get especially excited and happy to join in worship with people of this community as we begin to reflect on God's redemptive story," said Pastor Conway.
Westminster Presbyterian will host a special service on Thursday which ends with silence and darkness. Then on Easter morning, they will slowly light up the sanctuary throughout the service to celebrate and honor the resurrection of Christ.
