CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico state police say a tip resulted in more than 90 arrests and the seizure of 52 roosters along with cocaine and marijuana during a weekend cockfighting bust in eastern New Mexico.
State Police Lt. Eric Garcia says a tip about a "large event" came in Saturday evening. Officers and agents with the Special Investigations Division went in undercover and quickly confirmed the tip.
It look law enforcement hours to process the scene. They wrapped up early Sunday.
The cockfighting was held in a Clovis barn. Garcia says documents were seized that showed the ring had been in operation for some time.
Four people are facing felony charges related to the bust, and the rest of the patrons were released after receiving a misdemeanor criminal summons.
