ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Santa Fe County authorities say a child participating in a popular northern New Mexico Easter time pilgrimage was struck by a car Thursday evening.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department says the 6-year-old boy wandered into traffic around 8:15 p.m. during the Santuario de Chimayo Pilgramage.
The department said a vehicle driven by a 72-year-old woman hit the child along New Mexico route 503 about 5 1/2 miles outside of Pojoaque (poh-WAH'-kay).
The child suffered injuries, but is expected to survive. He was airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital in stable condition.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
