These days, adults are spending more time at work than ever before. So to combat the inactivity that's a side-effect, the American Heart Association is kicking off it's Start! Movement.
Today the association is asking people to become active and heart healthy, especially in the workplace.
It encouraged employees to wear sneakers to work and take 30 minutes to get up and walk around. If you don't take part in any type of activity and are sedentary, that doubles the risk of heart disease.
Some research has shown walking lowers blood pressure, cholesterol, and helps prevent heart attack and stroke.
"Walking in and of itself is a very good exercise. In fact you derive probably 90% of the benefits by just walking or the equivalent of anything more intense than that," said Dr. Monte Slatton, an Interventional Cardiologist at the Cardiology Center of Amarillo.
The Heart Association lets you download a walking day tool kit for free, to access it, just click the link at the bottom of this story.
