Raymond Mondragon,former Clovis police chief and city manager, was the victim of an extortion scheme and robbery at an Albuquerque hotel.
According to the Portales News Tribune, the incident happened early Wednesday morning, and three men have been arrested.
An arrest affidavit filed in Albuquerque Metro Court, the three men admitted to hatching a plan to blackmail Mondragon. They threatened to ruin his career by coming forward with sexually suggestive text messages Mondragon had sent to one of them.
According to the affidavit, Mondragon called police after fighting with two of the men in his hotel room just before 3 a.m. Mondragon said one of the men punched him in the face, he fought with them, they then stole his wallet, watch, iPod, and cell phone and they then fled.
