Canyon police no longer believe bullying to be reason for student stabbing
CANYON,TEXAS -- Pronews 7 spoke with Canyon Police Chief Dale Davis Thursday morning he says they no longer believe bullying to be a part of the incident.
Police have been investigating the stabbing at Canyon Junior High and after obtaining more information believe it was nothing more than a disagreement between the two students.
According to Davis the two students were acquaintances that had been in a disagreement over the past week which led to the incident.
Davis also commented on how well the school handled the incident. He says when police arrived the two students had been separated, and first aid was started on the victim. The suspect was separated from the rest of the students and the campus was on lockdown. The school not only attended to the victim and the suspect but it also did a great job making sure the other students on campus were safe.

According to police two Canyon Junior High School students were involved in an altercation during their lunch period on Monday.
A 15-year-old male student was stabbed two times by a 14-year-old male student.
The 15-year-old was treated at the scene and transported to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital for treatment. He is said to be in good condition and is expected to be treated and released with minor injuries.
The 14-year-old was taken into custody by Canyon Police. Officers quickly secured the crime scene between the main classroom area and the commons. Police recovered a weapon and interviewed several witnesses to the assault. Officers believe that this could be a bullying incident between the two individuals involved.
Christy Bertolino spokeswoman for CISD tells Pronews 7 that the campus was placed on lockdown for about 45 minutes. It's the school's policy to have monitors available in the commons area, and luckily one was there and immediately intervened in the situation.
Bertolino also says, the school district will follow the policies and procedures lined out by the TEA and expulsion is a possibility.
Police hope to have the investigation completed soon. The case will then be forwarded to the Randall County Juvenile Probation Department. The case is classified as an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
