OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - State Treasurer Scott Meacham says state revenue collections in March topped those for the prior year for the first time since December 2008.
Meacham said Tuesday that last month's collections also exceeded the official estimate for a second consecutive month.
Preliminary reports show general revenue fund collections in March were more than $401 million. That was $6.4 million above March 2009 and $81.4 million above the estimate.
Meacham says collections were enough to fund state agency budgets for the month after the previously ordered 10 percent budget cuts. He says about $80 million in excess collections will remain for use in subsequent months.
Meacham says improving revenue from gross production taxes on oil and natural gas continue to drive the state's revenue picture.
