AMARILLO,TEXAS -- Thanks to a grant the City Commission approved the city will be able to add over 1300 additional children to its Summer lunch program.
That means that the city along with AISD will serve over 5,000 students will serve this Summer.
There will be 42 parks offering this program, ensuring these kids have a place to eat lunch. The city has been doing this for thirty years.
Mayor Debra McCartt says this is a great opportunity for the children.
"We have a high number of kids that have a free lunch program and depend on it, and for them to have this opportunity for lunch in the summer time is invaluable to them, and helps them grow strong and healthy to have that lunch provided to them on a daily basis during the summer."
The summer lunch program starts June 4th and is absolutely free.
If you are interested in joining you can take your children to any of the parks and sign up on that day.
Here is a list of the parks and schools offering the program.
