SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A government report finds there would be limited environmental impact from the TransCanada Keystone XL crude oil pipeline that would cross 314 miles in western South Dakota.
The 36-inch-diameter pipeline could carry up to 900,000 barrels of crude oil daily from Canada to refineries in Oklahoma and Texas.
The U.S. State Department compiled a draft environmental impact statement because the pipeline originates in Canada and requires a presidential permit. There's a 45-day comment period that includes a series of public meetings, including three in South Dakota next month.
