CANYON, TEXAS -- UPDATE: Police have identified the woman as Richelle Redman, 52, of Canyon. According to a release from the police department, they are working very close with Burlington Northern Santa Fe in the investigation of the accident.
It's a mystery from Canyon. A woman was struck and killed by a train there late Sunday afternoon, but police don't know who she is.
Canyon Police Chief Dale Davis said the accident happened just before six p.m. at 15th street and the tracks.
He says witnesses are saying what appears to be a middle-aged white woman, wearing a music player and earbuds, waited for an eastbound train to pass, stepped on the main line, and was struck by a westbound BNSF train bound for California.
Davis says she carried no id, but was carrying a light-colored walking stick. Her body has been taken to Lubbock for an autopsy.
In the meantime, if you can help identify this woman, call Canyon Police at 655-5005, or the Randall County Sheriff's department at 468-5800.
