ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Bernalillo County sheriff's deputies say a 23-year-old man has died after being shot west of Albuquerque.

He was identified as Virgil Begay.

Deputies responded to a call to Interstate 40 west of Albuquerque early Sunday and found the man dead in a car.

Sheriff's detective Lawrence Koren says Begay and three other people were at a bonfire party Saturday night and that an altercation with other partygoers escalated into gunfire.
