AMARILLO,TEXAS -- The list of candidates for vice president of Academic Affairs at Amarillo College has been narrowed down to three. Each finalist will visit the campus the first week of May for interviews.
The finalists are, Dr. Don Thomas, senior vice president of instruction, at Weatherford College, Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, associate provost for academic affairs, at West Texas A&M University, and Dr. Debra Kuhl, dean of instruction, at Clarendon College.
Amarillo College conducted a national search for a vice president of academic affairs to replace Dr. Paul Matney, who served as AC's academic VP for four years until June 2009, when he was named 13th president of the college.
Jerry Moller, assistant dean of transfer programs, is serving as interim vice president and dean of instruction but is not a candidate for the position.
The search process represents the first time Amarillo College has conducted a search to fill this important academic leadership position. It was created in 1980 and filled by Dr. Gene Byrd, dean of arts and sciences, who remained in the post until he retired in June 2005. That is when Matney, another veteran member of the faculty, took over.
