PORTALES, N.M. (AP) - Eastern New Mexico University's regents have voted to raise tuition at the main Portales campus and the school's branch campuses next year.

The vote Tuesday increases tuition and fees at the Portales campus by 9.8 percent, or $174 per semester, for undergraduates who are New Mexico residents.

Tuition and fees for out-of-state undergraduates will rise 3.83 percent.

Graduate student tuition and fees will go up 9.39 percent for instate students and 3.92 percent for out-of-state students.

Tuition and fees will increase 8.8 percent at Eastern's Ruidoso campus and 9 percent at its Roswell campus.

The university says it needs the increases to balance its budget.
