OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Southeastern Oklahoma has the highest rates of unemployment in the state.

According to statistics from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, the four highest jobless rates when broken down by county are Latimer (11.2 percent), McCurtain (10.8 percent), Sequoyah (10.8 percent) and Hughes (10.4 percent). Although higher than the national average of 9.7 percent, statistics showed that unemployment rates in the four counties declined from jobless rates recorded in February.

The OESC announced earlier this month that unemployment statewide had fallen from 6.8 percent in February to 6.6 percent in March.

The counties with the lowest unemployment rates were all in northwestern Oklahoma: Beaver (3.4 percent), Harper (3.7 percent) and Woods (3.8 percent).
