If you are planning to apply for a concealed handgun license the application process should be easier.
Beginning on May 1, all applicants for concealed handguns will be able to complete the entire application form, as well as schedule their digital fingerprint appointments online.
"Completing the application form online is convenient for applicants and will allow us to process applications faster," said RenEarl Bowie, the Assistant Director, Regulatory Licensing, for DPS. "We are excited to offer this online service to concealed handgun applicants and hope they take advantage of the online application process."
Applicants are also encouraged to have their fingerprints digitally scanned, instead of sending in ink fingerprints. Digital fingerprints have a 98 percent accuracy rate, far higher than traditional fingerprint captures, reducing the number of fingerprint card rejects and the inconvenience of reprints for applicants.
While completing the application form online and submitting digital scanned fingerprints will help with some of the delays in the application process, applicants will still have to mail in citzenship documents, and criminal history.
Also starting on May 1: applicants for CHL renewals will no longer have to submit fingerprints, and applicants with a valid Texas ID or Driver License will no longer have to provide photos for renewal.
