CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - The former administrator of the Curry County jail has sued the county manager and commission over her firing last year, alleging she was misled and discriminated against because she's a black woman.
Lois Bean filed her lawsuit Thursday in district court in Clovis against County Manager Lance Pyle and commission members.
She seeks unspecified damages.
Bean's lawsuit contends Pyle recruited her by promising support and the money she needed to make the jail succeed.
But she says Pyle rebuffed her efforts to make changes in management, staffing, training and building deficiencies.
He fired her eight months after she took the job, alleging she had failed to make changes she was directed to make.
Pyle would not comment on specifics of the lawsuit, but denied that the county discriminates.
