The Amarillo Blood and Marrow Transplant Program received an internationally recognized accreditation
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Cancer patients in the Texas Panhandle can feel confident in the care they're getting. The Amarillo Blood and Marrow Transplant Program received a prestigious international accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy.
Amarillo is now home to one of only 189 such programs world-wide.
"The fact that we have been awarded this accreditation hopefully will re-assure patients in this area that they can actually receive the same level of service in this area without having to travel to Dallas or Houston," said Dr. Seah Lim, Director of the Amarillo Blood and Marrow Transplant Program.
The program provides blood and marrow transplantation to patients with leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and multiple myeloma. Amarillo's transplant program is a collaboration involving Texas Oncology, Northwest Texas Hospital, and the Coffee Memorial Blood Center.
