The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends absolutely zero television for toddlers younger than two
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Fourth graders getting bullied, losing interest in academics, and exercise can all be traced back to too much T.V. as a toddler. A new study done by the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, a journal of the American Medical Association says that may be the case.
If found that kids that watched a lot of T.V. as toddlers were more likely to get picked on in the fourth grade, spend less time exercising, and show less engagement in school.
Toddlers 29 months old were found to watch 1.2 hours of T.V. a day, nearly 8 to 9 hours a week.
"It's easy to use the T.V. as a baby sitter, I think T.V. in moderation is great, it's just like everything else you've got to use some common sense. If T.V. is keeping your kids away from other activities that are better for them then that's where the problem comes in. If they never go outside and play that could be a detriment," said Dr. Amy Andersen, Associate Professor of Education at WTAMU.
