Police say a 53-year-old man woke up around one a.m. this morning to a man in his home. It's the third home invasion robbery in just as many days, so Amarillo Police are pooling resources together and trying to catch the suspects.
In the latest home invasion, the man tells police he chased the suspect, a black male, out the back door where another man was waiting.
That suspect used his fists to hit the victim several times in the head and face, and then was forced back into the house. Amarillo police say these events are highly unusual and even if your home isn't victimized the thought of this many home invasion robberies puts them on high alert.
So that's why APD is making officers from all units available. "This morning the administration made sure that all the divisions knew to commit man power and resources to help the detectives out. from something as simple as locating a witness to something as complicated as serving a warrant in the event we identify a suspect," said Sgt. Brent Barbee, from the Amarillo Police.
So far police are still trying to see if all three home invasions have a connection or are separate incidents.
"Nothing makes a house impenetrable, you can't make it impossible to force entry, but you can make it so that people are slowed down if they're tying to force there way in. More often than not we find that these types of problems originate because of someone using fraud to get into a house."
APD says it if you have a question about how safe your home is, they'll be happy to come out and assist you.
