AMARILLO,TEXAS -- Amarillo police and the fire department responded to a call Thursday afternoon that a man intentionally set himself on fire at a gas station.
According to witnesses, the man walked into the Chevron at I-40 and Coulter after dousing his pants with gasoline.
He then reportedly was heard to say something about "making people pay" and then lit his pants on fire. But they didn't stay lit and he went back outside to allegedly pour more gas on himself.
He then walked back in and that's when one of the store customers punched the suspect in the face, reportedly to try and knock him out to keep him from lighting himself on fire again.
An Amarillo fire crew took the man to Northwest Texas Hospital with burns to his legs.
