If you're caught driving around with a child younger than eight years old and he isn't in a booster seat be prepared for a ticket. Starting June 1, 2010 police may issue citations for violations of the recent changes to the child passenger safety law.
The law requires all children younger than eight unless already taller than 4 feet 9 inches, to be in the appropriate child safety seat anywhere in a passenger vehicle.
"What we really like to do though is to make sure everyone knows ahead of time to take care of their kids correctly and get the kids in the safety seats, in the booster seats, fasten then booster seats down the way the instructions as you too, as importantly fasten the kids down in the booster seats," said Srgt. Brent Barbee of the Amarillo Police Department.
Fines are up to $250 plus court costs, possibly much more than the cost of a safety seat.
