AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Xcel Energy has proposed new rates to the Texas Public Utility Commission in Austin. The company announced Monday that it is seeking a 7 percent overall retail rate in Texas.
Wes Reeves spokesman for Xcel says the rates are based on usage, so of course the dollar amount changes. But for the average customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month, the monthly cost would rise by $8.89. A customers using 500 kilowatt hours would see an increase of $4.45.
Currently the kilowatt-hour price for residential customers is about 8.4 cents that number would increase to 9.2 cents, averaged between summer and winter rates.
