HOUSTON (AP) - Firefighters are battling a blaze at a southeast Houston refinery.
The fire broke out Monday afternoon at a 700-acre facility owned by LyondellBasell Industries. Thick black smoke could be seen coming from the plant. Residents living near the facility were asked to stay in their homes until officials could determine if any fumes had been released by the blaze.
No injuries have been reported and a cause of the fire has not been determined.
A spokesman for LyondellBasell did not immediately return a telephone call Monday.
The refinery converts very heavy high-sulfur crude oil into reformulated gasoline, low-sulfur diesel and other clean fuels. The plant also makes heating oil, jet fuel and lubricants.
