Josie Valdez, Glenwood Elementary School Teacher nominated for Regis & Kelly teacher of the year
Josie Valdez appeared on LIVE with Regis & Kelly Tuesday morning. Valdez a special education teacher at Glenwood Elementary school here in Amarillo was nominated as one of the top five finalist for the show's Top Teacher Week.
The program is recognizing one teacher per day during Top Teacher Week, which kicked off yesterday, for their influence in and out of the classroom. Valdez was nominated by the mother of one of her fifth grade students, who said in her nomination that Ms. Valdez "will do anything to help a child lear, and takes that extra mile and she fights for them to learn."
Tuesday was Valdez's turn on the show. In addition to being named top teacher, Regis and Kelly announced that Valdez and her school would receive five interactive classroom technology packages from elnstruction. The system comes with a multi-user interactive whiteboard, a set of mobile interactive tablets and a student response system.
"With hands-on interactive tools and instant feedback to student comprehension, this technology especially benefits special education classes," said Eileen Shihadeh-Shald, Vice President of Global Marketing for eInstruction.
Ms. Valdez was also given a $10,000 gift certificate to JC Penney to freshen up her home.
On Friday, the show's website will open for voting. The top vote getting teacher will win a brand new mustang and their school gets a $20,000 gift card to Staples.
