AMARILLO,TEXAS -- It all started as an e-mail from a soldier to his mother. That e-mail sparked an idea to help and support our troops abroad.
The North Heights Scrapbook Cookbook will help raise money for the "Thank the Soldiers" program.
The cookbook was created by teachers, and staff of North Heights to generate funds to send care-packages to soldiers in Afghanistan.
The book is full of great recipes, 262 to be exact. The concept of the cookbook is that of a scrapbook, one that families will pass down for years to come. Recipes range from appetizers to soups, salads, main meals, vegetable, and desserts. We're told the desert section has over 80 recipes. Chapters in the book even cover Mexican food, both Tex-Mex and authentic and camping cuisine.
Before the start of this program some soldiers had never received any kind of mail.
"It is amazing to watch their faces when they open the boxes because first they are not expecting it and it's just full of everything we can put in them. The kids have brought items, food items, they've written notes and letters and cards, they've brought toiletries," said North Heights teacher Diane Smithwick.
The books cost $15 for 125 pages full of color, or you can also get a CD-Rom version for $10.
