AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Three Democrats vying for a spot on the State Board of Education are vowing to work to undo partisan changes made to social studies curriculum if they're elected to the board in November.

The three candidates in the November elections made the comments as the board muddled through a daylong public hearing on new classroom history and social studies guidelines.

A growing chorus of speakers asked the board to delay a vote, scheduled for Friday, in order to do more to rewrite the standards.

Democrats Judy Jennings, Michael Soto and Rebecca Bell-Metereau criticized the board's ideological and partisan approach to changing Texas school social studies standards.

Officials have indicated they'll go forward with the vote without delay.
